A CLASH OF TITANS: Alcaraz overcomes Sinner in Rome final

M 1000 ROME. Italy
Italian Jannik Sinner and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the world respectively, delivered a match to remember in what was their first final against each other at the Italian Masters 1000. After an hour and 45 minutes of action, the Spaniard emerged as the champion with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 victory.

Novak Djokovic tops the list of Masters 1000 titleholders. The 37-year-old Serbian has claimed 40 trophies: five Indian Wells, six Miami Open, two Monte Carlo, three Madrid Open, six Rome Open, four Canadian Open, three Cincinnati, four Shanghai, and seven Paris-Bercy.

With this triumph, Alcaraz adds his name to the golden history of Spanish tennis, joining legendary figures such as Orantes, Sánchez Vicario, Corretja, Ferrero, Moyá, Mantilla, and of course, Rafael Nadal. This victory brings his career title count to 19, including seven at the Masters 1000 level — the tier just below the Grand Slams.

The win came against a red-hot Jannik Sinner, who had racked up 26 consecutive victories since his last loss in Beijing… which also came at the hands of Alcaraz.

Updated ATP Ranking After the Final:
Behind Djokovic on the list of most Masters 1000 titles are Rafael Nadal with 36 (last title in Rome 2021), Roger Federer with 28 (last in Miami 2019), André Agassi with 17 (last in Cincinnati 2004), Andy Murray with 14 (last in Paris-Bercy 2016), and Pete Sampras with 11 (last in the 2000 Miami Open).
