BACK TO THE COURTS – Federer’s Shanghai Return

ROLEX MASTERS SHANGHAI
When Roger Federer announced his retirement, he reassured fans that his love for tennis would keep him close to the sport — whether through exhibitions, charity matches, or special appearances. True to his word, the Swiss maestro is set for another on-court moment, this time at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, sharing the stage with a few celebrity guests.

In a video released by tournament organizers, Federer expressed his excitement:
“Hello, this is Roger, and I am really happy to be returning to Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Shanghai has always been a special place for me, with great fans, unforgettable memories, and a real love for the game. I look forward to seeing you then, on October 10.”

Joining him for the occasion will be Hong Kong-American actor and filmmaker Donnie Yen, Chinese actor Wu Lei, and former Chinese tennis star Zheng Jie.

For tennis fans, Federer’s return to the Qizhong Stadium brings back memories of his glittering career. Winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles — including a record eight Wimbledon crowns, six Australian Opens, five consecutive US Opens, and a French Open triumph in 2009 — Federer’s elegance, precision, and sportsmanship made him an icon far beyond the sport. He also captured 28 ATP Masters 1000 titles, Olympic gold in doubles (2008), and silver in singles (2012), shaping one of the most decorated resumes in tennis history.

The last time the world saw Federer in an official match was at the 2022 Laver Cup, where he teamed up with long-time rival and friend Rafael Nadal in an emotional doubles farewell for Team Europe — a night etched forever in tennis lore. His October return in Shanghai won’t be about competition, but it will be a celebration of the artistry, grace, and legacy that made “Roger” a name synonymous with tennis excellence.
