All of the Men’s Singles qualifying matches have been completed on Tuesday, March 21, with Christian Garin from Chile, Benoit Paire from Franceand Felipe Meligeni Alves from Brazil making it to the main draw.
Benoit Paire defeated Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis in two hours and sixteen minutes with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. He will face Japan’s Yosuki Watanuke, another qualifier, in his first-round match of the main draw. If he advances, his next opponent will be No. 12 seed Frances Tiafoe.
Kokkinakis also made it to the main draw as a lucky loser and will play against Wild Card Zizou Bergs from Belgium.
Elsewhere, Cristian Garin won the all-Chilean match against Alejandro Tabilo with a score of 7-6(5), 6-1. Garin, currently ranked at World No. 97, will face Marcos Giron from Thousand Oaks, Calif., who is placed at No. 71, in the main draw.
Brazil’s Felipe Meligeni Alves pulled off a great upset, defeating Kazakhstan’s Timofey Skatov in one hour and forty minutes with a score of 6-4, 7-6(5), and will make his ATP-Tour level debut in a Masters 1000. Meligeni Alves plays against Argentina’s Facundo Bagnis in the first round tomorrow and will face World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz if he advances.
