ATP Geneva, Switzerland. By Leo Canaparo
Novak Djokovic became just the third man in the Open Era to win 100 ATP singles titles, defeating Hubert Hurkacz 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) in the final of the Geneva Open. With this achievement, Djokovic joins legends Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) as the only players in the Open Era to reach 100 singles titles. The milestone came just two days after his 38th birthday and in a Swiss city where part of his family resides, making the moment even more special.
“I’m grateful to reach 100 here. I had to work hard for it, no doubt,” said Djokovic after the match.
The three-time French Open champion returns to Paris with the goal of adding to his 24 Grand Slam singles titles. He has a first-round match at Roland Garros on Monday against Mackenzie McDonald of the United States.
