SINNER CALM AND DOMINANT IN HIS US OPEN DEBUT

US OPEN. Men’s Singles
Jannik Sinner erased all doubts about his fitness with a commanding performance to kick off the 2025 US Open. The World No. 1 dismantled Czech player Vit Kopriva 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 in just one hour and 39 minutes, making a strong statement as he begins the defense of his crown in New York.

The Italian entered the tournament with some uncertainty after retiring last week in the Cincinnati final against Carlos Alcaraz. But on his Flushing Meadows debut, he delivered a ruthless display that left his opponent with no answers, proving that his preparation had been fully geared toward this major.

Sinner controlled every aspect of the match. With his trademark solid backhand and a powerful serve, he struck seven aces, won 83% of his first-serve points, and faced only two break points throughout the contest. Kopriva tried to mix up his shots but never managed to disrupt the rhythm of the top seed.

The opening set set the tone: the Czech failed to hit a single winner until the sixth game. A brief moment of balance appeared early in the third set, when Sinner committed a few unforced errors, but he quickly reasserted his dominance to close out the match with authority.
