Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz (World No. 1) defeated local player Adam Walton in the first round of the 2026 Australian Open.
In a match that lasted two hours and five minutes, the player from Murcia won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(2), 6-2, against the Australian ranked No. 81 in the ATP rankings.
“It was a great match, I felt really good. Adam has very good shots and it was a good test for a first round. I’m very happy with the level I showed today. He was always well positioned, we played very long rallies, and his flat shots made things difficult for me — he played a very solid match,” said the Spaniard, who will face German Yannick Hanfmann in the next round of the tournament covered by Agencia Noticias Argentinas.
Hanfmann, ranked No. 102 in the world, defeated American Zachary Svajda (No. 143) on Sunday with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3).
