ALCARAZ BRINGS TENNIS TO MIAMI

ATP Masters 1000 Miami. By Emiliano Naftali
Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 1, advanced this Friday to the third round of the Miami Masters 1000 (United States) with a clear statement: the ghosts of last year’s tough early exit are gone, and Brazil’s João Fonseca (world No. 39) still has some ground to cover before going toe-to-toe with him.

Alcaraz secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory in 1 hour and 29 minutes, playing in front of a crowd largely in favor of the Brazilian, cheering every point won by Fonseca or mistake made by the Spaniard. The current world No. 1 looks like a completely different player compared to last year, when he suffered a shocking defeat in his debut at this very tournament against Belgium’s David Goffin. He himself described that loss as one of the lowest moments of his career, but since then, he has staged a remarkable comeback.

Three Grand Slam titles — French Open, US Open, and Australian Open — along with nine wins in the 14 tournaments he has played since Miami 2025, fully support his resurgence.
