WIMBLEDON . Men´s Singles
Novak Djokovic continued to rewrite the record books at Wimbledon by defeating Russia’s Roman Safiullin in the fourth round. The Serbian star prevailed in four sets, 7-6(7), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, after three and a half hours of high-quality tennis, earning his 106th singles victory at the All England Club and becoming the player with the most singles wins in Wimbledon history.
The Centre Court contest proved far more demanding than many expected. Safiullin, who had advanced through the qualifying draw, pushed the world No. 8 throughout the match and forced a tense first-set tiebreak. After the players split the first three sets, Djokovic relied on his experience, consistency, and trademark mental strength to take control in the fourth set and secure another memorable victory on the grass of SW19.
With the win, Djokovic surpassed the previous record of 105 Wimbledon singles victories that he had shared with Roger Federer, establishing a new Open Era milestone at the sport’s most prestigious tournament.
Djokovic’s relationship with Wimbledon is one of the greatest success stories in tennis history. He captured his first title at the All England Club in 2011 and has since turned the tournament into one of his most successful hunting grounds. His remarkable run has included multiple championships, unforgettable finals, and extended winning streaks on Centre Court, where his movement, return of serve, and tactical brilliance have made him one of the most dominant grass-court players of all time.
Throughout his career, Djokovic has produced some of Wimbledon’s most iconic moments, including epic championship victories over Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios. His legendary five-set triumph over Federer in the 2019 final—decided by the first-ever final-set tiebreak in a Wimbledon men’s final—remains one of the greatest matches ever played at the Championships. With every victory, Djokovic continues to strengthen his legacy at the All England Club and further cement his place among the greatest players in the history of the sport.
