WIMBLEDON. Women¨s Singles
Linda Noskova (No. 9 seed) won the all-Czech showdown against Karolina Muchova (No. 10) to capture her first Grand Slam title, lifting the Wimbledon trophy in a remarkable breakthrough.
The 21-year-old defeated her compatriot 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 after an intense battle that lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes.
Noskova took control early, breaking Muchova’s serve twice to cruise through the opening set 6-2. She looked to be heading for a comfortable victory in the second set after securing another break and building a commanding 5-2 lead.
However, Muchova produced an impressive comeback, winning five consecutive games to steal the second set and force a decider.
Despite missing the opportunity to close out the match in straight sets, Noskova showed remarkable composure. She broke serve in the opening game of the third set and quickly raced to a 3-0 advantage. From there, she held serve with confidence to seal the biggest victory of her career.
The Wimbledon crown marks Noskova’s first Grand Slam singles title and the third WTA title of her career. At just 21 years of age, the Czech star continues to establish herself as one of the brightest talents on the women’s tour, and her triumph at the All England Club could be the beginning of a new era for Czech tennis.
