SPAIN ADVANCES WITH IMPRESSIVE TENNIS

DAVIS CUP. Santiago. Photo David Cup
Chile, led by Nicolás Massú, could not close the Davis Cup tie against Spain in its favor. In Santiago, Alejandro Tabilo and Tomás Barrios Vera suffered a decisive 6-0, 6-3 defeat in the doubles against Pedro Martínez and Jaume Munar, sending the South American team out of the competition while Spain secured its place in the Bologna Finals. In the final dead rubber, Martín Landaluce completed the Spanish sweep with a 4-0 victory for the visitors.

The Spanish team, without its star doubles player Marcel Granollers and its top singles player Carlos Alcaraz, produced a commanding performance at the Estadio Nacional. Just as they did in Marbella in 2025 against Denmark, Martínez and Munar once again became national heroes, delivering a dominant performance when Spain needed it most. The Chilean pairing of Tabilo and Barrios Vera simply had no answers to the power and consistency of Munar and Martínez.

“It was a very tough tie, and for now it is going to hurt for a long time. But I hope the next tie will be better,” Tabilo said during his post-match press conference.
