DJOKOVIC DOMINATES MUSETTI

M 1000 MIAMI OPEN. By Emiliano Naftali
Serbian star Novak Djokovic cruised past Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti on Tuesday at the Miami Open. The world No. 5 overwhelmed Musetti, ranked 16th, with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory in just an hour and 22 minutes. With this win, Djokovic advances to the quarterfinals, where he will face American Sebastian Korda.

“I was amazed. It was incredible to see Juan Martín del Potro, obviously an old friend and rival, so happy, sitting in my box and supporting me. It was the first time Delpo was in my box, so I want to thank him for coming,” Djokovic said in his on-court interview. “And Serena, that was a surprise. I didn’t know she was there.”

“Actually, when I hit that down-the-line passing shot, I pointed at her and asked if it was good. She said, ‘Yeah, it was good.’ If Serena says it was good, then it must have been amazing for everyone else. So yeah, it was great having them there,” the Serbian added with a smile.

Up next, Djokovic will take on Korda (No. 25), who battled past French veteran Gael Monfils (No. 46) in a hard-fought 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory that lasted two hours and 13 minutes.

This marks Djokovic’s first appearance in Miami since 2019 and his first quarterfinal run at the tournament since 2016, a year when he went on to claim the title.
