Arthur Fils always seems to have another gear, and he showed it once again this Sunday. The Frenchman displayed his outstanding class and overcame Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in a hard-fought battle, combining power, resilience and composure to reach the Cincinnati Open final.
Fils defeated Tiafoe to lift the biggest trophy of his career and claim his first Masters 1000 title. With this victory, he is also moving closer to the world’s Top 10 for the first time, reaching a career-high No. 11 in the ATP rankings.
However, Fils still has one unfinished goal that has followed him since the beginning of his professional career. He has always dreamed of winning tournaments at every level of the circuit.
“I always told my team that I would like to win tournaments in every category of the tour. Now I’m missing two. The Grand Slams, obviously, but I’ve also never won a Futures tournament.”
With his Cincinnati triumph, Fils arrives at the US Open with confidence, momentum and the belief that he can take another major step forward on the biggest stage.
