KEYS DEFEATS SWIATEK TO REACH THE FINAL

AUSTRALIAN OPEN By Gabriel Matteazzi
Australian Open 2025: Madison Keys digs deep to stun Iga Swiatek in three-set thriller and reach final. Former world number one Swiatek was beaten by American 19th seed Keys in a semi-final classic in Melbourne.

“I’m still trying to understand what happened. I’m in the final. The match was of a very high level. She played very well. I fought to stay in it. The third set was a real battle. Being able to get to the final was a challenge.”

Madison Keys delivered the biggest win of her career by defeating Iga Swiatek, the current World No. 2, in the semifinals with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (8). “Even though I lost the first set, I felt I was playing better toward the end of it,” she said.

As soon as the match ended, Keys admitted she had already forgotten a key detail: “Did she have a match point? Being able to keep fighting was simply incredible. At the end, I felt like we were both battling nerves—it came down to who would get that last point, and I’m glad it was me.”

Next, the American will face Aryna Sabalenka (World No. 1) in the fight for the title. “The final will be amazing. I’m super happy to be in Saturday’s final,” she said.
