ATP 250 ARGENTINA OPEN. .By Leo Canaparo
Argentine Diego Schwartzman thrilled the more than 5,000 spectators at the iconic Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club with a thrilling victory over Chilean Nicolás Jarry (No. 40), winning 7-6 (10), 4-6, 6-3. After months away from professional tennis and only a handful of minutes on court last week at the Rosario Challenger, Diego battled for nearly three hours to claim  a great victory. .

With this victory, Schwartzman secured his first win against a top-50 ATP-ranked player in two years, the last one dating back to October 2023.

In an interview with TyC Sports, “Peque” opened up about how he approached this emotional match: “Honestly, I didn’t expect to win. I was ready an hour before, thinking, ‘Oh, I’m going to start crying before the match even starts.’ And suddenly, the match started to go my way.”

“Honestly, it’s incredible. To be honest, I don’t even know how I created this moment. It’s as simple as saying, ‘I don’t have enough words to thank everyone.’ After yesterday’s cancellation, I thought I’d play in front of fewer people, but instead, the atmosphere felt like a Davis Cup match,” the tennis player said through tears.
