THE EMOTIONAL CRISIS OF SABALENKA

Roland garros Women¨s Singles. By Leo Canaparo
Aryna Sabalenka suffered one of the most shocking defeats of her career in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. The world No. 1 was leading 6-3, 5-3 against Diana Shnaider (No. 23), who eventually stormed back to claim the victory after winning 10 consecutive games. The final score was 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 in favor of the Russian.

“Right now I have no thoughts or emotions. Right now I just want to quit tennis,” Sabalenka admitted after the heartbreaking loss.A finalist at the Bois de Boulogne in 2025, the Parisian crown continues to elude Sabalenka. Next Saturday, there will be a new Grand Slam champion, as neither Shnaider nor her semifinal opponent, Polish player Maja Chwalinska, nor the players from the bottom half of the draw — Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (No. 15) and Russian Mirra Andreeva (No. 8) — have ever won a singles major title.
