TIAFOE Sparks Historic Comeback as Team World Claims First Laver Cup

SAN FRANCISCO. USA
A stunning comeback by American Frances Tiafoe against Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas sealed a landmark triumph for Team World, who clinched their first-ever Laver Cup title with a 13-8 victory over Team Europe on Sunday in London. Tiafoe rallied from a set down to win 1-6, 7-6 (11/9), 10-8, securing the decisive points that crowned the comeback.

Team World entered the final day trailing 8-4, but the momentum shifted thanks to Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime. He first partnered with Jack Sock to defeat Matteo Berrettini and Andy Murray in doubles, then delivered a statement singles win over Novak Djokovic.

Tiafoe’s heroics completed the turnaround before the scheduled final match between Norway’s Casper Ruud and American Taylor Fritz, making that encounter unnecessary. Under the Laver Cup’s unique scoring system, victories on Sunday are worth three points each, compared to two on Saturday and one on Friday. That format enabled Team World’s trio of wins on the last day to overturn Europe’s lead.

Europe had dominated the event since its inception, winning the first four editions. But this fifth edition will also be remembered for an emotional milestone: Roger Federer’s farewell. The Swiss legend closed his career on Friday in doubles alongside Rafael Nadal, in a match they lost but which became one of the most moving moments in tennis history.
