WOMEN’S FINAL IN WIMBLEDON WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS

WIMBLEDON.
On Saturday, July 12th, Wimbledon will witness a historic women’s singles final as Poland’s Iga Swiatek, former World No. 1 and current No. 8 seed, faces off against American Amanda Anisimova, seeded 13th. The championship match at Centre Court will mark the eighth consecutive edition of the tournament to crown a new Wimbledon champion.

The first player to book her place in the final was the American Anisimova (ranked 12th in the WTA rankings), who pulled off a stunning upset by defeating the World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka, who had reached the finals at both Grand Slams played earlier in the 2025 season, was ousted in a tense three-set battle, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Swiatek, meanwhile, has quietly carved her path to the final. Often considered a clay-court specialist, the Polish star has flown under the radar this fortnight but looked unstoppable in her semifinal, dismantling Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0 in just over an hour. Despite slipping to No. 4 in the rankings this year and not having claimed a title since her 2024 Roland Garros triumph, Swiatek has shown remarkable composure and consistency on the London grass.

“I never dreamed it would be possible to be in a final here,” Swiatek said during her on-court interview. “I’m very excited and honestly surprised with myself. Tennis keeps surprising me. I never used to feel comfortable on grass, but now I’m enjoying it.”

As the tennis world turns its eyes to Centre Court this weekend, the stage is set for a thrilling clash between two players chasing their first Wimbledon crown — and perhaps the beginning of a new chapter in women’s tennis.
