Star Power Delivers Drama in Dallas Quarterfinals

ATP 250 DALLAS. TX
The quarterfinals of the Dallas Open 2026 featured the two highest-ranked American players in the draw, setting the stage for a compelling night of tennis. Top seed Taylor Fritz (world No. 7) faced fellow countryman Sebastian Korda with a semifinal berth on the line. In the opposite half, second seed Ben Shelton (No. 9) went head-to-head with Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic, who had just knocked out fifth seed Tommy Paul. None of the four had previously reached the final in Dallas—Fritz and Shelton both had semifinal appearances to their name in recent editions.

Fritz Stands Tall Against a Red-Hot Korda

The opening set was a showcase of serving efficiency, with both players holding comfortably and offering no clear break chances. Fritz briefly required medical attention for elbow discomfort but continued without hesitation. The tiebreak proved decisive, as Korda dictated from the baseline and capitalized on unforced errors to take the opener.

Raising his level, Fritz leaned heavily on his serve in the second set, firing aces and taking control of the rallies with greater aggression. Korda remained competitive, but the top seed struck at mid-set with the crucial break. Rock-solid on serve and untroubled by break points, Fritz closed the set 6–4 to force a decider.

The final set was defined by tension and precision, with neither player yielding serve. Despite lingering physical issues, Fritz held firm in the biggest moments. In a dramatic final tiebreak, Korda briefly took the lead, but a string of costly mistakes opened the door. Fritz seized the opportunity, completing the comeback after two and a half hours of high-quality tennis.

Shelton Pushes Through Against Kecmanovic

The second quarterfinal opened evenly, with Kecmanovic earning an early break chance that Shelton managed to escape. From there, both players settled into a steady rhythm on serve. Just as a tiebreak loomed, the Serbian raised his intensity on return, secured a vital break, and closed the set 7–5.

Shelton responded emphatically, feeding off the crowd and increasing his aggression. Backed by a booming serve, he broke midway through the second set and cleaned up his game, limiting errors. Kecmanovic struggled to maintain the same returning pressure, allowing Shelton to level the match with a commanding 6–3.

The deciding set began on even terms, but Shelton once again struck first with a well-timed break. From there, he dictated play with authority, protecting his serve and controlling rallies with his power. Kecmanovic searched for a way back, but Shelton sealed a 6–4 victory to book his place in the semifinals after two hours of action.
