New Faces Shake Up Asunción Premier Padel P2

PREMIER PADLE PARAGUIAY

The biggest storyline on Thursday at the ueno bank Asunción Premier Padel P2 was the arrival of fresh contenders ready to challenge the established order in the men’s draw. While the women’s competition unfolded largely as expected, the men’s side exploded with surprises, as three pairs outside the top eight stormed into the quarterfinals at Parque OlĆmpico.

Among the breakthrough stories were Juan Ignacio De Pascual and Alonso Rodrƭguez, who reached their first-ever Premier Padel quarterfinal after producing one of the shocks of the tournament. Alongside them, Maxi Arce and Juan Tello, as well as the rapidly improving duo of Edu Alonso and Aimar GoƱi, continued their impressive runs and suddenly turned the title race wide open.

The contrast between both draws became the defining theme of the day. In the women’s event, the favorites once again displayed their dominance. Third seeds Andrea Ustero and Alejandra Alonso opened the action with a composed 6-2, 7-6 victory over NoemĆ Aguilar and Leticia Manquillo, combining aggressive shot-making with calm execution in the decisive moments.

World No. 1 pair Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea followed with another solid performance, defeating Marta TalavƔn and Sofƭa Saiz 6-2, 6-4 to continue their confident march through the tournament.

Paula Josemarƭa and Bea GonzƔlez delivered perhaps the most emphatic display of the day. The second seeds overwhelmed Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga 6-1, 6-1, reinforcing the feeling that they are quickly becoming one of the strongest teams in the competition.

On the men’s side, however, the tension and unpredictability kept growing throughout the afternoon. Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas survived a demanding battle against Diestro and SĆ”nchez, winning 6-2, 7-6 after a tightly contested second set. Alejandro GalĆ”n and Federico Chingotto also had to raise their level under pressure before edging past Jofre and Gala 7-6, 6-4, once again proving why they remain among the toughest competitors on tour.

Top seeds Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia advanced with authority against Campagnolo and Bautista, controlling the match from start to finish in a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger were equally convincing, cruising through with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 performance to stay firmly in the title conversation.

Still, the real turning point of the day came in the unexpected matches. Rodríguez and De Pascual, emerging from qualifying, stunned Garrido and Bergamini 7-5, 6-3 after more than two and a half hours of intense competition. At the same time, Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi confirmed their remarkable progress by defeating GonzÔlez and Di Nenno in straight sets, while Juan Tello and Maxi Arce battled through a grueling three-set encounter against Lijó and García.

The women’s draw also featured demanding encounters outside the main spotlight. Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen survived one of the toughest battles of the tournament against Nuria RodrĆguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo, winning 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo advanced comfortably, while Alejandra Salazar and Andrea Alonso also secured their place in the quarterfinals with another composed display.

By the end of the day, the contrast between the two competitions could not have been clearer. In the women’s draw, the top eight pairs all advanced, setting up blockbuster quarterfinal clashes. In the men’s tournament, however, the established hierarchy suddenly looks vulnerable, as new partnerships continue to emerge and the race for the title becomes completely unpredictable.
