ATP 500 HAMBURG. Germany
Tomás Etcheverry had countless opportunities to close out his Round of 16 match at the ATP 500 Hamburg, but ultimately fell short. In total, he held seven match points before losing to Tommy Paul 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 7-6(7).
It is worth remembering that on Tuesday, after wasting two match points and dropping the second set in a tight tiebreak, the match was suspended due to darkness, postponing the final outcome.
The La Plata native was leading 5-4 and serving for the match in the second set, holding both a 40-30 advantage and later advantage at deuce. However, he was unable to capitalize, and the set eventually went to a tiebreak. Even after fighting back from 5-1 down to lead 6-5, he still could not seal the victory.
Etcheverry has fond memories of the second Grand Slam of the season, having reached the quarterfinals there in 2023. In Paris, he will have a chance to climb back up the rankings, since he will only need to defend the first-round points earned in 2025.
