WIMBLEDON. Women¨s Singles
Japanese star Naomi Osaka knocked World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka out of Wimbledon, defeating the Belarusian 6-2, 7-6(2) to advance to the quarterfinals—her best result to date at the All England Club.
Sabalenka, who was clearly outplayed by Osaka, once again fell short of reaching the Wimbledon final. Despite winning four Grand Slam titles—two at the Australian Open and two at the US Open—and finishing runner-up at Roland Garros, the Belarusian has never made the championship match at Wimbledon. Her best performances on the London grass remain the three semifinal appearances she has achieved during her career.
