NORRIE IN SECOND ROUND

ATP 250 DELRAY BEACH. Florida. By G.Matteazzi
British number two Cameron Norrie beat American Zachary Svajda in straight sets to reach the Delray Beach Open second round. Norrie, the 2022 winner, needed 90 minutes to seal a 7-5 6-4 win over the world number 169.
“[I’m] very satisfied, it was my first match outdoors in a while,” said Norrie, who improved to 9-3 in Delray Beach. “I was pretty nervous coming in, not moving my feet that well, but I’m pretty happy with how I finished both of the sets, playing my best level. That’s what counted.”In 2023 and 2024, Norrie opted to travel to South America for the clay-court swing. Two years ago he reached the final at the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires and won the ATP 500 title in Rio de Janeiro.

“I’m skipping the clay this year,” Norrie added. “I was hoping it was going to be slightly easier conditions here, but it wasn’t… I was swinging just as much as I would in South America, but it’s nice to be on the hard courts and nice to get a win after a tough match.”
