No 3 seed Alex Michelsen reached the quarter-finals of the Delray Beach Open when qualifier Michael Mmoh retired on Wednesday at the Delray Beach Stadium and Tennis Center.
Michelsen, ranked No 37, led 6-7 (8), 3-0 when Mmoh, ranked No 328, pulled out.lex Michelsen, 20 years old, is currently ranked No. 37 in the world, having reached his career-high ranking of No. 36 in January 2025. So far in 2025, he has recorded 7 wins and 4 losses, with a quarterfinal appearance in Auckland. As for the Delray Beach event, he previously participated in 2024, reaching the second round.
Michelsen has had a promising start to his professional career. At the 2024 Australian Open, he became the youngest American player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam since Donald Young at the 2007 US Open. He has also secured notable wins in his career, including a victory over former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. Additionally, he has delivered strong performances in other tournaments, reaching the finals of Newport in both 2023 and 2024, as well as advancing to the quarterfinals in events like Los Cabos and the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati.
