THE WORLD NO. 1s CROWNED CHAMPIONS IN ROME

MAJOR PREMIER PADEL – ROME
Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello were crowned champions of the 2026 BNL Italy Major Premier Padel after defeating Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto in the final by a score of 7-5, 7-6(4).

The last title won by the world No. 1 pair had come at the Cancún P2 tournament back in March. Since then, they had reached five consecutive finals but suffered five defeats—four against Galán and Chingotto and one against Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger.

Tapia and Coello arrived in Rome looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance in the Buenos Aires final, where Galán and Chingotto completely dominated the match. However, the top-ranked duo displayed a very different level in the Italian capital compared to what they had shown three weeks earlier in Argentina.

The opening set was a tightly contested battle, with both teams evenly matched throughout. A crucial break in the eleventh game proved decisive, allowing Tapia and Coello to take the first set 7-5.

Carrying the momentum from the end of the opener, Tapia and Coello secured an early break in the second set and maintained their advantage until the tenth game, when they served at 5-4 for the championship. Galán and Chingotto responded with their best tennis of the match to break back and force a tiebreak, but they were unable to push the contest into a third set.

The world No. 1 pair held their nerve in the decisive moments of the tiebreak, sealing the victory 7-6(4) and capturing their first title since March, ending a frustrating streak of runner-up finishes.
